Fictional me

Okay so I forgot to ask Kimi if her prompt of what book/show/series I'd insert myself in meant that I would be myself in the world or if I would be adjusted to fit that world, so I'm just gonna do both.

If I'm just myself

  1. Star Trek. So while without adjustment I probably couldn't join Starfleet, Star Trek has an Earth where there everyone is taken care of and prejudice is incredibly lessened. Sure, without some majorly new information it would take me a bit to adjust to the world, but I'd be doing that with free housing, food, education, and healthcare. Plus teleportation would make travel so much easier and isn't that the dream?
  2. One Day at a Time. I just finished binging this on Netflix and I can't recommend it enough. Since this is a sitcom just set in our world, I wouldn't really need to be adjusted. But if I could go hang out with the Alvarezes (including the honorary ones), I would feel so special and so loved. Now, go watch this show.
  3. Scooby Doo. Since the gang is all amateur sleuths anyways, I don't think I'd need to be tweaked to join their group. I adore Scooby Doo and mostly they're just dealing with dudes trying to scam for some money so it's generally pretty low stakes. But the friendship of the gang ability to get to solve some mysteries for fun doesn't sound like a bad life to me. Plus, having a talking dog friend would make me just the coolest.
  4. Lumberjanes. This is a delightful series and while there is peril, it seems like most of the main characters don't have supernatural powers to get them out of it, they just use their teamwork and Girl Scoutesque skills. I would love to help Jen out with her cabin or delightful weirdos who always get into intense hijinks.

If I'm adjusted to the world

  1. Harry Potter. Okay, so this probably surprises exactly no one, but who wouldn't pick this one assuming they could become a witch/wizard? It would be our world but I would be magic and could have magical pets and a magical job and there seems to be less worry about things like healthcare and all that good stuff. Obviously, this has to go into the adjusted world one otherwise I would just be me.
  2. Star Trek. Now you'll see this appears in both categories. The reason I'd need to be adjusted to live my best Trek Life is the immense amount of historical, cultural, and scientific information I'd need to join Starfleet. Assuming I'm someone who just grew up in this world and had all of this ready to go, I'd be so stoked and would probably join Starfleet.
  3. Brooklyn 99. In order to really hang with the Brooklyn 99 cast, I'd need to be a cop or someone involved in law enforcement. I realize that this is something I could theoretically do, but in the Brooklyn 99 world, the worst injury anyone gets is shot in the butt and the detectives are quality people. If I could just hang out with all of them though, I would. Maybe I'd prefer to just be someone who worked at Shaw's (I think that's the name of their bar) come to think of it. Then I'd get to meet all the levels of drunk Amy and that'd be pretty fun.

This turned out to be harder than I thought it would be. So many shows involve really intense situations like wars (Game of Thrones, Saga, Marvel, Wizard's First Rule) or walking corpses (Game of Thrones again plus The Walking Dead) or just other peril (all of Gaiman) that I would not want to be in whether I'm adjusted or not.

15 facts I learned from a random Wikipedia article

Original prompt: click on "Random Wikipedia Article" and write about whatever comes up (you can try 3 times and pick your favorite). For the record, I got Alejandro Estivill , Fencing at the 2011 Pan American Games – Women's épée , and Benjamin F. Jonas . I chose Benjamin F. Jonas because it was the longest of the three entries and it had a photo. He was born in Kentucky, moved to Illinois as a kid, and went to college and spent the rest of his life in Louisiana Jonas's father was a merchant and lawyer His father knew Lincoln (like they were real buds) Despite this, Jonas sided with the confederacy Not only did he side with the confederacy, but he joined the Confederate army and rose to the rank of major He went to University of Louisiana (now Tulane) Jonas was Jewish (I didn't know there were Jewish senators who served the Confederacy) He was the second Jewish U.S. Senator from Louisiana and the third Jewish Senator overall Jonas was the first Ashkenazi Jewish US...

Origin story or first issue of a superhero whose super power is geometry

Arya sat in history class and was bored. She longed to get to geometry, where things made more sense. She liked geometry so much that she had joined the math team to be able to do it more. Okay, there was also the extra time with her friends who loved math as much as she did, but some of the appeal was just the math itself. Finally the bell rang and Arya had four minutes to get to her geometry class. She passed right by the chemistry class next door where her least favorite teacher was conducting experiments. He needed to be more careful, thought Arya. The teacher had once exploded a glass beaker and not on purpose. Arya took her seat and excitedly pulled out her notebook. It was her favorite color: hot pink. She assigned her notebook and folder colors in ways that felt right to her. And since geometry was her favorite subject, she made her notebook and folder for it her favorite color. As the teacher started to go over the most common mistakes from the last quiz, Arya could've swo...

Color palette

Original prompt: "Google "color palette," pick one, and write something inspired by it." I actually Googled "color palette public domain" to be sure I could use it and found the image on this post. I used the "floral" section for my inspiraiton. The soft sunlight somehow didn't dim the shine of the fireflies. Such it was in the fae realm. Fern loved this time of day in the faewild where it wasn't quite day, but it was far from night. Fern frolicked alone in the glade as she was want to do. It didn't matter to her that her laughter carried itself alone on the breeze; she was content. She wasn't sure how long she'd been alone as she watched the suns begin to set, but it was pleasant in its own way. But then, she heard a noise. It wasn't the noise of leaves on the wind or twigs snapping from some comforting creature. It was the noise of someone approaching with grim determination. Fern wasn't sure how to ready herself to ...
