Inis Meáin

Sorry everyone, it's been another long day so this is going to be a pretty basic post of things I did/saw/learned while on (my way to/from) Inis Meáin today kind of done in a style of one of my coursemates.

  1. Downloading the newest episode of Brooklyn 99 to listen to as you walk into town will be the best plan.
  2. A mocha will be the correct way to fuel your morning trek.
  3. There are too many cars on Shop Street in the morning, so you'll need to pay more attention when walking than normal.
  4. When you end up wondering where you dad is, he'll already be on the bus.
  5. Lally tour buses will never have working Wi-Fi.
  6. You're more easily seasick than you'd like (luckily no throwing up, just some good old fashioned nausea).
  7. You'll like the smell of seaweed and the ocean.
  8. Inis Meáin does not have a real center of town.
  9. Nothing is really open in the off season on Inis Meáin so you'll learn that you should've called ahead.
  10. People are the kindest on Inis Meáin and will take pity on you and your dad when they see you buying sandwich things at the convenience store. So kind that they'll call their friend who has a B&B and ask if she can make you and your dad lunch. Karen is the angel who works at the convenience store and will save you and your dad (and let you have the coffee you'd already poured yourself for free).
  11. Angela lives up to her name. She will give you and your dad two cups of vegetable soup, a pot of tea, a pot of coffee, and a gigantic pile of toasted sandwiches. Praise be to Angela. If you're ever again on Inis Meáin, you know you'll go to Creig Mór B&B.
  12. You should follow the signs to Creig Mór B&B and ignore Google (it doesn't know what it's doing).
  13. Crosswords will be a great way to pass the time as you eat Angela's delightful food and warm up.
  14. You're never going to be over seeing animals in person. You'll say 'Hi friend!' to at least one horse, one dog, one cat, two donkeys, two sheep, and five cows today. You will have no regrets about this.
  15. Inis Meáin is wonderfully quiet.
  16. Inis Meáin is beautiful even in the rain.
  17. Inis Meáin is more beautiful when it's not raining.
  18. Bringing a backpack will be the correct plan.
  19. Layers are also always correct.
  20. Spying the sky through cracks in the old rock fences will take your breath away.
  21. You'll find that you can take an infinite number of photos on the beach. There will be rocks, shells, seaweed clusters, waves, little pools of water, and rivulets made by the ocean gently trickling in and out.
  22. You will wonder how long it's been since anyone else's boots have tread upon and made dents in the sand.
  23. Sometimes the ferry home goes to Inis Oírr first and no one will tell you so you'll end up calling both Lally tours and the ferry company wondering if you've somehow missed your ferry.
  24. Both companies will be very kind and reassure you that the ferry is coming and the bus will wait.
  25. Your dad will be glad you made the calls and will calm down about missing his flight the next morning.
  26. Taking breaks from crosswords will be the best plan when you're staring to feel a bit seasick.
  27. Wearing your Try Guys hoodie will make you feel incredibly cool.

I've officially begun my second cycle. On Wednesday, I had a virtual appointment, yesterday I had my baseline ultrasound, and today I began injections again. On Wednesday, I expressed my concern about my weight and was told not to fret about it for this cycle but that I should work on it for my health. I got told some vague things about measuring my food by volume and weight and that being the key the weight loss (idk it sounded weird to me). But other than that my appointment went well and I really liked the PA I met with. Overall, she was supportive and encouraging me to advocate for myself. Yesterday, I had to get up earlier than normal (6am) so I could make it to my ultrasound at 7am (I have asked for future ultrasounds to be at 8am). I got weighed (ugh), had my blood drawn, and t...

Starting my parental journey, part 8

Now, that may sound like I'm bailing out of my fertility journey, but it's actually the opposite. In order to get everything ready for the egg retrieval, I need to hop on birth control for a little bit and then hop off. It feels a bit odd to be taking oral birth control, have a birth control arm implant, and be getting ready for an egg retrieval--but that's how it goes (for me at least--getting to keep the arm implant is rare or so I'm told). People have asked me how I'm feeling about this round of egg retrieval and honestly, I haven't thought about it much yet. I am focused on a big stressful event for work and then C2E2 (Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo--basically, Chicago's Comic-Con) which I attend every year. Because of these two events (one stressful, one fun), I del...
