Nyxi brainstorm

Age: 20
Occupation: Town oracle
Family members/significant others:
  • Dalla: mother
  • Father is deceased?
  • No siblings
  • Currently no relationship, but this is because this isn't her focus right now (in this world there is some amount of matchmaking, but it is not the only way people end up together and usually it's a light hand of matchmaking)
  • Harder to have friends after becoming oracle, but I imagine she still has a few close ones

Personality traits:
  • Anxious
  • Caring
  • Doesn't focus on herself
  • Non-confrontational (this is difficult because she has to be when she foresees a problem)
  • Practical

Character history (where he/she is from): Kabalaka
Physical traits:
  • Dark hair
  • Gray eyes (typical of oracles)
  • Light brown skin
  • Short (5'2")
  • High cheekbones
  • Average build (being an oracle doesn't involve a lot of movement and encourages staying put)
  • Don't really want to say if she's beautiful or not because that's not the point
·       Biggest motivation: To be accepted as part of her community
Biggest fear: To fail her people
Things she likes:
  • Animals
  • Walks in the jungle
  • Swims in shallow water
  • Her mother's cooking
  • Baked goods with her island's fruits

Things she doesn't like:
  • Travel
  • Asking for help
  • Meditation (even though she's supposed to do this)
  • Being out in the sun all day
  • "Magic" shows
  • The priests because they make knowledge of the gods seem easy
Archetype: Protagonist
Goal: To be able to support her town in the way it needs (but she'll also learn that that means supporting herself)
Backstory: Came into her power at 16 when she was able to get her town to safety during an intense storm. Since then, she did some trainings to learn about her oracle powers on other islands because her town did not have an oracle to train her.
Stakes: Being cast out of her society (maybe at some point in the story another oracle will be cast out showing that this fear she harbors is possible) and bringing ruin to her society
Relationship to other characters:
  • Dalla
    • Appreciates that Dalla supports her, but feels a lot of pressure from her mother
    • Dalla enjoys the prestige she gets from being related to the oracle and this makes Nyxi feel like even more is on the line for failing
    • Feels able to express her fears to her mother because she knows her mother will never cast her out
  • Nimue
    • Nyxi highly respects her
    • Also fears her a bit because she is a representation of Kabalaka and holds the power to cast her out
    • Maybe eventually will feel comfortable seeking her advice
    • Nimue greatly trusts oracles inherently and respects Nyxi, but Nyxi doesn't realize this for a long time

I've officially begun my second cycle. On Wednesday, I had a virtual appointment, yesterday I had my baseline ultrasound, and today I began injections again. On Wednesday, I expressed my concern about my weight and was told not to fret about it for this cycle but that I should work on it for my health. I got told some vague things about measuring my food by volume and weight and that being the key the weight loss (idk it sounded weird to me). But other than that my appointment went well and I really liked the PA I met with. Overall, she was supportive and encouraging me to advocate for myself. Yesterday, I had to get up earlier than normal (6am) so I could make it to my ultrasound at 7am (I have asked for future ultrasounds to be at 8am). I got weighed (ugh), had my blood drawn, and t...

Starting my parental journey, part 8

Now, that may sound like I'm bailing out of my fertility journey, but it's actually the opposite. In order to get everything ready for the egg retrieval, I need to hop on birth control for a little bit and then hop off. It feels a bit odd to be taking oral birth control, have a birth control arm implant, and be getting ready for an egg retrieval--but that's how it goes (for me at least--getting to keep the arm implant is rare or so I'm told). People have asked me how I'm feeling about this round of egg retrieval and honestly, I haven't thought about it much yet. I am focused on a big stressful event for work and then C2E2 (Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo--basically, Chicago's Comic-Con) which I attend every year. Because of these two events (one stressful, one fun), I del...
