15 themes for a murder mystery party

I've just started thinking about throwing another murder mystery party, so here are themes that I think could be great.

  1. Greek/Roman gods and goddesses. There are so many gods and they all have beef with each other, how does that not equal drama perfect for a murder mystery? Sadly, the person killed would likely have to be a favored mortal...
  2. Zoo. A ton of donors have come for a big party, but someone is found dead! Who dunnit? Donor, staff, or animal?
  3. Mine. What if a miner is found murdered deep in the mines? Only those down there could have done it, right?
  4. Wedding. Weddings can bring out a lot of tensions and again you have that limited set of people who could have done it.
  5. Fairy garden. The fae are known to be petty and vicious when they choose. Seems like the perfect recipe for murder.
  6. Morgue. What if a new dead body ends up in the morgue? Who killed them? Was it a staff person, a grieving family member, or someone who was only pretending to be dead?
  7. Spaceship. The most extreme form of cabin fever could take hold and lead to the murder of a crew member.
  8. Museum. So many cool possibilities for a murder weapon and so many rooms to explore.
  9. Magic show. Someone was made to disappear...permanently. Who is the culprit? The magician? The lovely assistant? The stagehands? An audience member? Who knows?
  10. Carnival. You can't pass up an opportunity to have creepy clowns in a murder mystery.
  11. Funeral. Someone else has been found dead. How will the grieving family deal? Were they even grieving in the first place?
  12. Doll store. Dolls can be so creepy and the right one could even be a murder weapon. What if at an event at the store, someone is found dead?
  13. Bookstore. A murder mystery author comes to their hometown to launch their new book but then someone is found dead at their book launch! Can they and their fans solve this real life mystery?
  14. Dating reality show. Yes this will be a tad bit like Unreal, but with more solving the murder. Just adding in a bunch of singles trying to find love, fortune, and fame will make for a good, dramatic mystery.
  15. Comic Con or some other con. It has all the perks of a masquerade theme, but with the added perk of having nerdy things around.
Which of these would you like to play?

15 things you'll think about during your dad's latest hospital stay

This is meant to be a related piece to "15 things to do in your dad's hospital room," "15 Things You Find in Your Dad's Hospice Room," and "15 Things You Find When You Clean Out Your Dad’s Apartment" .  The Christmas lights at the nurse's station that should really have been switched for saccharine cupids by now What team decided to hang up a clearly labeled DRAFT safety sign Who comes up with the aliases they seem to use for trauma patients and how they decided on Redstone for your dad That his skin either looks like a bruised elephant or like sickeningly conflicting colors of thin paper mache Where you can possibly get food--you're shaky The patient in the ER somewhere with a lot of ammo, but no gun, or so they say Why the staff is being so happily loud and swearing...it feels discordant The used bandaid and gauze that are left on the floor of his ER room as he moves to his hospital room...the last proof he was there Having to do this a...

15 facts about my dad

Just been thinking about some lighthearted facts I know about my dad lately. When he was young, he had a goldfish named Lysander He introduced me to Star Trek At Christmas, he would tear up at It's a Wonderful Life He used to send me articles from his Yahoo email account that he thought I'd like We used to play a game called "Nightmare" where he would lie down and we'd jump around (and sometimes on) him He would clip possible recipes for us to try out of newspapers and magazines We bought him a Paddington Bear to take on trips because we feared he'd be lonely and he always took it He had teddy bears for three different holidays We once had such a hilariously difficult time building a gingerbread house that when some frosting ended up on the counter, I plopped a gumdrop on it and we laughed until we cried He and his sister were born about 11 months apart We would try recipes from Top Chef He kept gifts I made him, even when they weren't great At Christmas, ...
