15 minutes of D&D brainstorming #n+7

I have another session coming up Friday! I don't think my party reads my blog. If you do--STOP IT! I'm going to copy and paste a lot of my last posts so I can build on it.

  • Ways to introduce new character
    • She's also at the job board
    • She's at Cloak and Stagger having a pint
      • She would have to be convinced to join the party if she's reluctant to go to the capital (up to her)
    • She's at Cloak and Stagger to help defend the goblins
      • Could be a passionate local
    • She's at Cloak and Stagger to help find the goblins
      • She would have to be convinced to join the party's side
    • She's on the road to the capital on her own
    • She's on the road to the capital with an escourt
      • Could decide to ditch her escourt
        • Could have come to the capital with an escourt and slipped them
    • She's at the court as someone else summoned
  • Journey to the capital
    • Giant snake attack
      • Wait til new player has joined so she can see how combat works
      • Beasts so they can't be charmed or reasoned with
      • They're hungry so they want to eat the players
    • Strix (in Ekphrastic Beasts) attack (1 blonde, 1 redhead)
      • Wait til new player has joined so she can see how combat works
      • They want to destroy all humans and elves etc. because of how the country has treated them, so they can't be reasoned with
      • If they charm them, have them come after them an hour later
  • Town of Limisteer
    • Large town, like Baile
    • Has almost everything you want because of the closeness to the capital
    • Large Pub-Cloak and Stagger
      • Owner=Lark and Rarmad Granitebraid, Lark is a female half-orc. Big smile with jagged teeth, very friendly and wears suspenders. Has the best brews in town. Rarmad is a sorcerer with great cooking skills and used to run The Half Pint.
    • Job board has the city guard and kitchen help quests posted
    • Two elf city guard are at Cloak and Stagger are talking about getting spooked in the catacombs of the Temple of Apollo
      • The city guard is looking for help with strange sounds coming from the catacombs
      • Location: Temple of Apollo NPCFather Jesep, a very, VERY old human male who mumbles and shuffles. Reward: 500 gold Quest: Father Jesep has been the head of the temple for longer than just about anyone can remember. Some even say he has a touch of Elf blood in his veins, that’s wait helps him live so long. Father Jesep is sloooooooow. Speaking in a quiet, slow mumble and walking with shuffling feet. Mostly, his assistant, Friar Morgan (young, too perky), speaks for him. The Temple is in charge of maintaining the catacombs. Friar’s go down daily to offer prayers for the day and make sure there is no foul play. There haven’t been any problems for years, but lately, Friars have begun to hear strange noises coming from the oldest parts of the catacombs where the great wizards of the past are housed. Some Friars investigated but ran out when they saw a singular green eye staring at them in the darkness. No one has been to that area since. They have gated that section off and warded the area, but they can’t simply leave whatever it is down there forever. If the adventurers can investigate and find out exactly what they are dealing with, the Temple will pay them 250 gold. If they can eliminate the problem, the Temple will pay an additional 250 gold (500 total).
      • Cursed arcanists who strive to obtain godhood and fail can become nothic. Nothics do not remember their past lives, but they are still drawn to magical knowledge and weapons by impulses they don’t understand. Usually, nothics are content to watch creatures it encounters, weighing and measuring them with their strange insight. However, when attacked, it can use its one eye to rot the flesh of its adversaries. These nothics have been drawn to the catacombs by the tombs and weapons of the ancient wizards buried here. They have opened all the tombs and taken out the wizard tomes and items, collecting them together to pour over them. Nothics can be bargained with, often exchanging magical secrets for magical items. In this case, your party can try to bargain with the nothics or slay them.
    • Two humans who work at the Queen's Head inquire about jobs at Cloak and Stagger because the Queen's Head is always such a mess in the morning. They say that the owner is advertising for more help.
      • The Queen's Head, the smaller of the two pubs in town, is advertising kitchen help
      • Location: The Queen's Head NPCButch Marcle, Male Half-Orc Reward: 20 gold plus room & board Quest: Butch is former Sergeant turned tavern owner. He prides himself on running a clean and respectable business. (This should be surprising to players based on how dirty his job posting was! Turns out that the posting has been up for a long time.) For the past few months, Butch has been under attack. Something is sneaking into his kitchen nearly every night, stealing food and making a mess! The place is locked up tight each night. There is no way anything is getting in through the doors or windows. Butch has set traps, waited up, and even hired other adventurers, but nothing has worked! If word gets out he has a…*gulp*…pest issue, it would ruin him! If you can find whatever it is and put an end to its late-night foraging, Butch will gladly give you 20 gold and a free place to stay when you visit the city!
      • The Encounter: A Rogue KoboldThis kobold has been separated from its clan (during a chaotic storm when its clan fled the area) and has chosen to live under the Queen's Head Tavern. The kobold has created an entire lair under the tavern with a tunneling system that spans nearly the entire town! It has been sneaking in and stealing from all the taverns in town, collecting a tiny hoard of odds and ends. The kobold has an entrance to Butch’s kitchen from a tunnel under a loose stone slab on the floor (DC 15 Investigation/Perception). This tunnel is small, easy for the kobold to move through, but difficult for larger creatures
      • Options! For this quest the party has some options. They can choose to: *Kill the kobold *Convince the Kobold to join them and leave to find a new clan *Convince the kobold it is wrong to steal and he should help Butch out to pay for what he takes
    • Violet and Chance Ird fail to show up at their morning check in at Cloak and Stagger. They always come to arrange their meals and plan for the evening show. The party was shopping on their first night so they missed the first show.
      • Two local musicians play a song every night to keep an angry beast at bay. The musicians go missing. If the townsfolk cannot find a replacement to play the soothing tune by nightfall, the entire town will be in danger. Abarat can only fill in for one.
        • The local muscians: Violet and Chance Ird, goblins. They play the flute and lyre respectively. Known for lovely original songs about the queen. They left their goblin homeland and picked new names to pursue music and they loved the acceptance that they found in Limister and they accredit that to the queen.
        • Ask around at Cloak and Dagger about the last sighting of the musicians. Eventually clues lead to some royal guard (unclear whose) whisking the musicians away. Possibly it's because they're secret royals, but really it's because the queen's brother wants to stir up trouble and get more locals angry with the queen.
          • Clues: tracking which gets them to witnesses, description of singing the national anthem (though unclear if version that includes the queen), the musicians claim to have been awake during the big sleep (they're lying because they thought it added to their mystique)
            • Witnesses: Keerla Virvalur (elf, beautiful), Nuvian Morkrana (elf, handsome). They were out on a romantic walk together. They thought it was odd but didn't want to get involved in anything with the guards. They frequent the musicians playing at the Cloak and Stagger (around 6pm) so they recognized them.
        • The musicians are being taken out of town. The guards can be bribed, but not reasoned with typically. They can also be fought. If defeated, their true nature is revealed if they are searched by the party and thus letters from the queen's brother are found. If just bribed, they stay tightlipped.
          • Knight and a guard encounter if they choose to fight
            • Knight is Sir Joseph Riverward, less easily bribed, doesn't care much what happens to the musicians as long as one of them returns loyal to the prince
            • Guard is Lady Arya Mournblade, more easily bribed, is making the musicians play for her, is less invested in the whole enterprise
          • Your duty is to move the Irds out of town for a few evenings. They are to return only after being made loyal to me. Use your discretion. The Crown Prince
        • Familly of rotating eladrins who just like the music. It's currently fall so it's an autumn eladrin who appears named Millenis. They are willing to retract the threat of harm and instead reward the muscians with gold.
          • Millenis will appear at 5pm no matter what. They will react to the situation to defend the musicians but this could be in a brutal way. Remember that Millenis can charm other humanoids.
          • Depending on what they tell Millenis, they might win a friend or foe for the crown prince and for themselves
        • What people know about the crown at the pub
          • Lark: thinks inclusivity has gone up since the half-elf queen has taken over and thinks that if the crown prince is the heir it will reverse
          • Rarmad: Believes the crown prince poisoned the family because isn't it just so convenient that he didn't sick
          • Two humans, Elizabeth and Mary Emberwinds (married couple who met at work), who work at the Queen's Head: mostly indifferent to the queen, but like to see humans entering the royal bloodline.
          • Elf, Estelar Farlar, who was having lunch: The crown prince should've been picked as the heir as he has the real dignity of the office
        • Succeeding in this will gain support of the town

Starting my parental journey, part 9

You can  read part 1 here ,  read part 2 here ,  read part 3 here ,  read part 4 here ,  read part 5 here ,  read part 6 here ,  read part 7 here , and read part 8 here . I've officially begun my second cycle. On Wednesday, I had a virtual appointment, yesterday I had my baseline ultrasound, and today I began injections again. On Wednesday, I expressed my concern about my weight and was told not to fret about it for this cycle but that I should work on it for my health. I got told some vague things about measuring my food by volume and weight and that being the key the weight loss (idk it sounded weird to me). But other than that my appointment went well and I really liked the PA I met with. Overall, she was supportive and encouraging me to advocate for myself. Yesterday, I had to get up earlier than normal (6am) so I could make it to my ultrasound at 7am (I have asked for future ultrasounds to be at 8am). I got weighed (ugh), had my blood drawn, and t...

Starting my parental journey, part 8

You can  read part 1 here ,  read part 2 here ,  read part 3 here ,  read part 4 here ,  read part 5 here , read part 6 here , and read part 7 here . I have begun birth control again. Now, that may sound like I'm bailing out of my fertility journey, but it's actually the opposite. In order to get everything ready for the egg retrieval, I need to hop on birth control for a little bit and then hop off. It feels a bit odd to be taking oral birth control, have a birth control arm implant, and be getting ready for an egg retrieval--but that's how it goes (for me at least--getting to keep the arm implant is rare or so I'm told). People have asked me how I'm feeling about this round of egg retrieval and honestly, I haven't thought about it much yet. I am focused on a big stressful event for work and then C2E2 (Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo--basically, Chicago's Comic-Con) which I attend every year. Because of these two events (one stressful, one fun), I del...
