15 movies and TV shows I dislike

Original prompt: What are the dumbest movies or TV shows? Some of these I used to like and some I've never seen. Avatar (the blue people one) Man of Steel Tout va bien Black Robe Alice in Wonderland  (the Tim Burton one) The Golden Compass The whole Bourne  series Locke & Key The Biggest Loser The Swan The Apprentice Southpark Orange is the New Black American Horror Story Family Guy (Prompt by Brianna Aaron) "tvb [tv basta!]" by amemainda

15 minutes of Rivulet Brook brainstorming, part 1

So one of my DMs has asked us to think more about flaws and backstory, so I figured I'd do it as a prompt!  Flaws I put too much trust in those who wield power within my temple’s hierarchy and my piety sometimes leads me to blindly trust those who profess faith in my god Even though I know those in the temple hierarchy are imperfect, I still put an overwhelming amount of trust in them as they raised me. This can make me blind to flaws that I would easily see in others. When I find other followers of Geshtai, I am overwhelmed with delight to find a genuine connection and, again, can become blind to flaws I like to meddle in people's business and love to insert myself into others' problems This can get me into trouble I am overly confident in my charismatic abilities When I fail, I feel lost and like I have no purpose I am desperate to know what happened to my parents I'm willing to do almost anything to find out what happened to them Still has a bit of a crush on Keeper ...

15 favorite tropes in fiction

Not 100% sure these all count as tropes, but here we go. Found family/family of choice Slow burn ship Fake relationship to real dating People being in love in multiple universes Villain redemption (when done well, though I suppose that applies to all of these) Did so and so survive (e.g. Anastasia)? Self-reference/self-teasing Easter eggs Infusing the supernatural with history/real event, fictional cause Closed circle Cozy mystery Everybody did it Lights off, somebody dies Reunion kiss/hug Platonic life-partners  (Prompt by Dante Gonzalez)  "Easter eggs! :)" by Stephanie Lamphere . Thoughts on 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After season 7, episode 1

New season! Also, for the record, I won't be typing about Big Ed (you can ask me why if you're curious). Looks like a dramatic season ahead Jenny gets scary Salty lemon water? (I guess it's common!) Maybe tell your parents in a letter, Sumit? Shaeeda was accepting all male friend requests? I'd forgotten Bilal and Shaeeda had only had seven days together This is a woman you kiss, Bilal Kim is too confident Why didn't Kim meet Usman's family the first time around? So Kim is going to propose... Did we have to look at Andrei's butt? Their daughter is so cute What was that sizzle? What a boring looking house Libby is starting a singing career (maybe)? Is a second child that surprising? Oooh that naan looks good Oof Jenny is getting angry Mila is so cute You're not a babysitter, you're a dad, Jovi Okay how much is Yara going out? Lol at Libby's sister with a napkin on her head I do feel bad for Libby's mom Oop Bilal got the names mixed up Yara is c...

15 favorite movies

Now these aren't all movies that I'd consider artistic films, but they are all movies that have a dear, dear place in my heart so no hating on them 😜. These are also just what came to mind...it would take so much longer to make a definitive list. Little Miss Sunshine Mulan Cheaper by the Dozen Nightmare Before Christmas The Return of the Jedi It's a Wonderful Life All the Toy Story s (I'm cheating here, I know) Shrek Mean Girls Fiddler on the Roof Hocus Pocus Babe Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban The Incredibles The Swan Princess (Prompt by Eleanor Pratt) "A possum and a movie camera 1943" posted by Australian War Memorial collection

Something that would surprise most people about you

So I guess I don't know what would surprise people about me as I think I have a fair few people who know me very well, but here goes. I think something that would surprise people is that I wish I was less cautious.  Now being cautious isn't a bad thing. It has kept me pretty safe overall in my life, but I will say that I sometimes envy those who can get a rush of adrenaline and not think they're having a panic attack, the kind of people who look at a roller coaster and think "what fun" instead of "fuck no," the kind of people with epic travel stories of swimming with sharks or snowboarding down a real mountain.  I often feel like I missed out on a lot of experiences in life (at the tender old age of 30). What have I missed by being too cautious? What wild nights of feeling alive have I sat out on? What heart-pumping experiences has my body never felt? What if I had taken up offers for a good time from men? What if I had asked my friend who went hang glid...

Describe your favorite meal

My favorite meal has to be tuna spaghetti. It's what we in the family call a family recipe even though I think it just started with my dad finding the recipe in a magazine or newspaper (I'm pretty sure not online).  I don't remember the exact origins of it, however, I just know that my dad made if for me and my brother every Wednesday night and many a Saturday afternoon. I don't know why my brother and I clung onto it so much, but we did. I mean, I do think it's delicious, but I also find many other things delicious (like pizza) and it didn't become a large family ritual (well pizza nights were common but this feels different somehow). I also know that I was (and am) a picky eater so perhaps our dad just found something we'd eat consistently and was like "good enough!" When we were young, our dad would do all the cooking and we would just watch TV as the smells of garlic and lemon wafted in from the kitchen window (or window cutout? what do you cal...

A carnival comes to a town that's never seen one before

The carnival emerged from the fog like a beacon. Swirling lights, sweet smells, dancing acrobats, and juggling clowns.  Wide-eyed children openly stared as the carnival marched into the empty lot in town. What had been on the lot before was lost to history. All in town only thought of it as "the lot." As the carnival set up, some protested, saying that they couldn't just use the lot, they had to get permission. The ringmaster displayed a written document permitting them use of what was referred to as "the lot," which was odd as one would think an official document would say the address of the lot. Yet, no one knew the address of the lot or who would be the one to grant permission, so no one could tell whom to complain to or to verify this document. And so set up went on. A whirling dervish with swings joyfully spinning around it was constructed in what seemed like no time. A ferris wheel that allowed carnival-goers to see far into the dense pine woods on a clear...

Write an interview-style piece with someone who was part of a big historic movement years ago

Here is my pretend interview with Marco Polo. Happy to elaborate more on this if you're curious. *** So, Maro Polo, thank you for sitting down with me today. You are known for being an extensive traveler. Is it true that you traveled all the way to China in the 1200s? Yes, I made my way there all the way from Italy and was highly revered. Forgive me for asking, but if you, a merchant, traveled all the way to China, making note of goods along the way, how come you did not mention China's tea? Well, uh, I certainly experienced the tea as it was a common custom at the time, but I guess I just didn't make mention of it. Perhaps it was so abundant that it almost became invisible to me, does that make sense? Can you explain your route across Europe and Asia?  My route? Indeed, it just, forgive me, doesn't make a lot of efficient sense. Well it's not always about efficiency when travelling, is it now? Sometimes the roads less traveled, the more circuitous paths are the mos...
