Thoughts on 90 Day Fiancé: The Last Resort season 3, episode 12

Time for a sex dungeon? John, you're the one being a jerk right now Is this really the first time Pao and Russ have realized that they express and receive love differently? Ah, Rebecca, of course suspenders can't possible fall to the ground without a ghost making them Did...no one tell the medium that many rooms at this place are named for tragically dead queens? Wow a woman on reality TV has daddy issues? This woman MUST be psychic That said, it sounds like Pao's dad was a piece of shit Okay, I'm glad Rebecca acknowledges that psychics cannot provide solid evidence, but I do need Rebecca to actually believe that I do agree that John and Patrick do not look alike Hey, John, getting drunk is BAD ADVICE for how to repair a relationship Also, John, maybe apologize to Thais for yelling at her instead of to Patrick for yelling at her? I can believe that Sarper has been aggressive in the past (we've seen it on the show), but in this conversation he seems to be pretty meas...

Thoughts on 90 Day Fiancé season 12, episode 15

Time for more family drama? Genuinely confused how Catie and Josh are just moving on Josh...you know your parents will now be able to watch this whole show, right? Catie...you said IN FRONT OF JOSH'S PARENTS that you would TRY to not take other lovers Marissa...Edward is allowed to bring up serious stuff Marissa, I don't get why your tone is THIS harsh with Edward right now Paula really is pretty Aw I'm glad Paula's sister is here Mido...you don't even seem to be able to pretend to support Debby about her son not coming I think it's fair for Anabelle to be nervous to meet Shea's daughter with Nicole To be fair, Shea's kids are allowed to be skeptical of ANYONE coming into their father's life--what matters is how they treat her and how they adjust their view of her based on her actual actions I do get that there is something peaceful about being on the water, but I can't imagine this body of water gives Rasit the same feeling as being on the coast...

Here are some short pieces based on things that have happened in my life recently.  Bubble Wrap Seriously, if you are reading this, please package yourself in bubble wrap. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, in less than a month I've had 7 loved ones have a medical procedure and/or scare. Yes, these medical issues varied from planned to put off to emergency and yes, 6 of those 7 are home now, but I need everyone to be more careful. No more, okay? I think I have earned a reprieve of loved ones falling ill or injuring themselves until at least 2027. Yes, I know that's not actually how the world works and yes, I do not not actually believe in curses or such things, but my nervous system cannot take this. I do want to acknowledge that all of these medical issues have had great affects on others' lives, health, and nerves, but I cannot read their minds--I can only read mine. Also, it would not be my business to share their thoughts, feelings, and/or m...

15 thoughts on Let's Marry Harry season 1, episode 1

While the title is clearly meant to reference the infamous I Wanna Marry "Harry" , this show is clearly more akin to The Bachelor . That said, I watched the first episode and here are 15 thoughts. If you haven't watched, the premise of Let's Marry Harry  is loosely The Bachelor  where the lead is a guy who has been on other reality dating shows named Harry, but instead of the expectation of getting engaged after about two months, the expectation is that Harry and one lucky(?) lady to get married at the end of month--much crazier Another interesting layer is that Harry will be in the same house as the ladies vying for his heart. On shows like The Bachelor , the lead usually has their own house and just the contestants bunk together. This will likely turn up the drama dial The final layer that is sure to add drama and separate this show from The Bachelor  is that Harry has three advisors (his best friend, a friend who is like a brother to him, and his ex that he is now ...

Time for some (probably) bad advice.  Wait did Kara and Guillermo share a room last night? This crinkly chip bag is a lot It's John! John is here to stay on TV... Shekinah, your comment wasn't taken wrong Also, yeah, maybe Thais shouldn't have gotten in your space, but that doesn't mean you get to be racist and xenophobic Sarper...are you the breadwinner? Hey, Shekinah, how do you not recognize that speaking your mind when your mind is racist is going to have consequences? I cannot judge Kara's accent, but I am impressed that she knows English, Spanish, and at least some Chinese Oop and Guillermo dropped he's gonna buy a motorcycle when they already have one Also, I think fixing the old motorcycle may be cheaper than a new one as he doesn't even seem to have done research on it Oop, Kara, now was not the time to bring up the deed Sumit, you do have a pattern of lying to try and make people not mad at you John, a bar and a club are different Also, John, you k...

15 things in my miscellaneous emotional drawer about my dad

The other day, I was chatting with my therapist and she brought up the idea of miscellaneous emotions and memories drawer (I had called it a junk drawer, but she said that was too negative). Basically, the idea is that we all contain multitudes, but not all are useful at every moment. So, they all sit together in a drawer and we pull out what is needed in the moment. Here are 15 things in my miscellaneous emotions and memories drawer about my dad. My dad was intelligent and encouraged my curiosity  He fell asleep sitting up in a dining room chair while we spent time together His early retirement would've been seen as a blessing to many My dad struggled much more after he no longer had to show up and be accountable He loved art--especially outsider art His pieces he made while in a care home could be considered outsider art--as far as I understand the term at least My brother looks more like him than I do He disconnected from most of his family His sister has been the one helpi...

Time for family drama?  Marissa, I love dogs, but I think it's kind of a wild time to get a puppy I'm kind of confused as to how Marissa has two jobs, two homes, and two kids and manages it all Catie, you don't want Josh and like that's fine, but let him go I'm glad that, for once, Catie seems to be listening to Josh Yeah, Josh, THE SIGNS HAVE BEEN THERE! Debby, as someone who doesn't cook much either, I have some sympathy, but you had to know you had to remove the shrimp heads Well I guess Mido finally said he loves Debby Thomas, if there is a budget you have to tell Paula Also, yeah, a big rug that can be outdoors is probably gonna be like $70 Paula, just put one of the kids on that camping bed Thomas, can you not do yoga on the balcony? But, yeah, Thomas, you two do not appreciate life in the same way...which means you may not be compatible Ashia, maybe folks who are married actually have a good perspective on what makes a good marriage Huh Mido did something...

15 musical acts in an office

I saw a series of posts started by someone with the handle clubjuggle challenging folks to "[b]ring a musical act into the office". They then started with "Fleetwood MacBook". I thought this (and the other entries "A Perfect Circle back on this," "RE:M," and "Pearl Paper Jam") was amazing so I decided to also attempt the challenge. Enjoy my 15 attempts below. Snippets, forty

Here are some short pieces based on things that have happened in my life recently.  Caffeine? I haven't had a full cup of coffee yet today, but I feel energy coursing through my veins. Or is that anxiety?  I used to say that my anxiety felt like poison pumping through my veins and then my doctor was like, "No, girl, that's adrenaline." Adrenaline of course makes more sense as if I'd had that much actual poison pumping through my veins, I would not be here. Also, anxiety is your body's way of telling you that you aren't safe and need to be on alert--so adrenaline makes sense as it'll help you bolt away from danger. But for this morning on a day off (for what it's worth, I wrote this on Friday), I don't need to have this much energy teeming just under my skin. I have valid reasons to be anxious including that over the past two weeks or so my mom had (planned) surgery and I've had three friends in the hospital (including ICU and ER). The logic...

15 facts about Galena, IL

Since my friends and I go to Galena, IL (nearly) every year (and head there today), I decided to look up some facts about it (most directly from the Wiki page "Galena, Illinois" )!  Apparently, the reason it has fabulous hills, valleys, bluffs, and exposed rock is because it wasn't covered in glaciers ages ago It's named for galena (the natural form of lead sulfide) which was also mined by indigenous peoples to use in burial rituals Before a large rush for mining galena, Galena's population was ~200 Then, in roughly 1828, Galena had a similar population to Chicago (~10,000) due to said rush But also in 1828, there was a huge flood which allowed steamboats to go down Galena's streets Elihu Benjamin Washburne, who was a prominent Galena lawyer, later served in Congress during the Civil War, and then as Secretary of State and Minister to France for Ulysses S. Grant when he was president The DeSoto House Hotel in Galena's downtown is the oldest operating hotel...

Snippets, thirty-nine

Here are two short pieces based on things that have happened in my life recently (or even today).  Assemble The other day, and even tonight, I had one of my friends over to help with my new condo. The first saw me anxiously looking as she unpacked the pieces of my new desk chair and kindly offered to just assemble it on her own if that would be helpful. At first I declined, but as she kept unpacking and I found myself unsure how to help, I took her up on it.  It was so peaceful and lovely for us to just be in the same room each doing our own kind of work. I was trying to finish up some computer tasks for work because I was about to take three days off and I didn't want to leave my team in the lurch. She methodically and deftly assembled my desk chair enjoying--or so she said--having a break from computer work.  In the end I had an actual comfortable chair to sit in that could hold my weight and shape well. She had to go, but I thanked her. Tonight, a different friend came...

15 things I still need to do in/at my new condo

It's painted now, but here are some more things I need to do! Ask my neighbors if I'm allowed to use their couch on the back porch Place my in case of emergency save my dog stickers in my windows Locate and then relocate all of the things the painters put away Actually move the bulk of my stuff in (gotta pack that too) Figure out the floor plan for my living/dining room area Take stock of what other items I may need to acquire Select what will go into my basement storage unit Meet my neighbors and introduce them to Hoban Hang up the curtains I ordered (after they arrive) Hire someone to clean the condo once a month Have my window's thermal seal resealed Put together the furniture I've gotten Find an outdoor rug for my patio Change some lightbulbs Put up art (Prompt by me) Photo by Dyana Wing So on Unsplash

Thoughts on 90 Day Fiancé: The Last Resort season 3, episode 10

Time for puppets and a hot tub.  "Which puppets are you feeling inspired by?" is a wild question Ah so now because John was represented in the puppet show, he is coming But it also seems like the therapist was implying he'd already been invited (which is probably the case) Oh I didn't know Guillermo lost a brother to alcoholism... Is Shekinah just sleeping? This moment between Kara and Guillermo does make me want to hope they'll work it out "The power of the puppets!" is a wild quote I don't know how two people who have known each other for years can go on a date pretending they've just met Well Shekinah probably is right that this isn't a safe space for her Sarper is doing stand up with puppets Shekinah made a good point that the topic had switched off of them and Sarper should be allowed to sit But, Shekinah, I cannot emphasize enough that you haven't apologized for telling Thais to "go back to her country" Zied does seem so s...

15 favorite moments from the "Count the Rice" episode of Game Changer

A recent episode had a somewhat deceiving title. Anna locking in immediately on counting the rice Ify telling Catherine to always listen to the songs Sam sings Catherine discovering room 4 Ify immediately figuring out what Catherine has figured out Ify discovering the Grant room (5) The Grants deciding on their own to shuffle around Jiavani pouring the rice in her drink and drinking it Demi (and others) trying various ways to not describe what they see Demi being the first one (we see) to actually ask differences between what he's supposed to notice Demi asserting that there weren't twins in the office rooms, but rather just one guy Catherine not getting that it's Spaghetti Man Ify indicating he can identify Grant just by the back of his head Demi being so pumped to count the rice once he knows the win condition For the final counting of the rice using both the earthquake and Elaine The Grant conga line (Prompt by Dante Gonzalez) Thumbnail of "The First 14 Minutes of G...

Thoughts on 90 Day Fiancé season 12, episode 13

Time for some finalities? Catie is going to a funeral-themed bar for her bachelorette because it's the death to her hoe life Honestly, I'm glad Catie has more friends than the men she's made out with That said, I'm not sure these friends are good friends since they don't seem to see that Catie's behavior is destructive CATIE! YOU. ARE. ON. CAMERA. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THAT ENOUGH Also, have you told Josh what you want sexually? Marissa, you were supposed to be sure before applying for the visa I get Edward's frustration WE DON'T NEED TO SEE SHEA AND ANABELLE MAKEOUT NAKED IN THE SHOWER Oof, I'm sorry for Allison, but she does need to seek therapy now That said, I understand Allison a lot more now Ashia, the dance Maxwell's mom is mentioning is not a strip dance Rod...don't bring alcohol to a dry wedding Like, yeah, car salesmen have a sleazy reputation, but also, Rod, what else is Maxwell supposed to do other than try and reassure you? What els...

15 worst first lines for imaginary novels

What opening line could make you bail right away? Also, these are parodies of famous opening lines. "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife solely to make his mother happy."—Man Austen, Pride, Prejudice, and Parentage "It was the best of times, it was the tops of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of acumen, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of true understanding, it was the season of light, it was the season of sunshine, it was the spring of hope, it was the summer of wishes."—Charles Tritens, A Tale of One City "As Gregory Sampson awoke one morning from unremarkable dreams, he found himself untransformed."—Frank Coughka, The Stagnation "Many years later, as he faced the firing manager, Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to play solitaire."—Gabriel Garsolo Márquez, One Hundred Cards of Solitaire ...
