Here are some short pieces based on things that have happened in my life recently.
"Conversation Set"
Why is this "conversation set" called a "conversation set" in some of the instructions, but a "patio set" in others?
Also, how many translator rounds did these instructions go through? Surely AI can write a bit more coherently than this.
And what is the right amount of tightening the screws to do for the first three so that I can get this forth one to catch a little so I can then tighten them all so it can support my weight?
I have had two friends help me with this "conversation set" and it has frustrated us all. I got the small table done today with a friend and a different friend got the rocking chair frames together. Tonight, I have attempted to get the green mesh that will be the actual part of the chair one sits in and I have finally thrown up my hands.
I picked this "conversation set" partly based on color, partly based on price, and partly based on its ample weight capacity.
Soon I may have to either return the set or hire one of their pros to put it together. If a pro can't put it together, then something is probably wrong with the pieces (which could be).
Is the discount of buying furniture that needs assembly worth it?
Time will tell.
Goodnight
I said goodnight and locked the door after them.
One of them had spent about six hours with me and the other about four, but it still didn't feel quite like enough.
Now it was just me and my dog. And while I happily and openly call my dog my baby, he is not the same as human company. In some ways, his company is better. It's easy, uncomplicated, and I never worry about saying the wrong thing to him because all he understands is that I love him.
But with my friends, there is something so lovely about having deep conversations and sharing the details of our lives whether it be the great lunch they had or how their job was annoying or our fears for our country and our world. Sure, I do have anxiety about how easily it feels like I could let my great friends slip through my fingers, but the rational part of me knows that is more of my brain punishing me for staying in the moment and its attempt to drag me back into the what ifs. After all, if I plan for all of my what ifs then I can survive them all.
But I know life is about more than just surviving. Yes, the surviving is good, don't get me wrong, but life has to be more than just daily tasks, routine, and perfect safety. If you risk nothing, never change, and never try anything new then what's the point? Joy often comes from the unexpected.
Then again, having a wonderful time with my friends is expected, but even after knowing many of them for close to 20 years, I still learn new things about them and I love seeing they way they have grown over the years even if it is into someone a younger me wouldn't have recognized.
I should get to bed soon. So, for now, I'll say goodnight.
Ice Cream
I suddenly got so hungry and because it's the summer, I got some of the ice cream out of my fridge.
It's not my favorite flavor--they were sold out of that--but it's still pretty good.
Should I get one of those mug-type-dealies where you can put a pint of ice cream in and it helps keep it cold why you eat it? I'm torn, because I usually need the ice cream to thaw a bit before I eat it, but then I want it to stay at that temperature. Would a mug-type-dealy help with that? If you have one, lemme know how you like it.
I know ice cream isn't the best thing to eat right now, but it's fully of joy and that feels right. Joy can be sparse in this world, so it's tough for me to see why I should forgo that for produce that may be recalled due to salmonella or E. coli or glass.
Yeah, yeah, I could cook everything first but that doesn't feel very snacky to me. Snacks need to have an immediacy and an ease. When the tummy calls for a snack, I know that I have limited time before I get hangry or even a bit too shaky.
I don't feel hunger like I hear a lot of people describe. Sure, sometimes I am hungry and sometimes I am full, but I am more often just neutral and I just know it's the time of day I should eat. If I listened to my stomach, I probably could make it through most of the day on just coffee.
Now, some people would tell me that, given my weight, that's what I should do. But I don't think that's a good plan either.
As I've been learning and trying to take in during therapy this past decade, all or nothing thinking is rarely the best way to look at the world.
Maybe I'll think on this more after another spoonful.
