New hobbies can be great!
- Pick something that makes your brain feel awake
- Start small (don't go all in on something you haven't tried yet especially as some hobbies can be expensive)
- If you can, sign up for a class as it'll help you ease in, learn, and actually try it
- See if you can get a friend or two to join you
- Document your progress if you find this motivating
- Invite others to partake (give away what you made, invite to a performance, do a skill share, etc.)
- Block out time for it
- Don't get discouraged if you're not immediately great, besides hobbies are meant to be enjoyed not aced
- Find ways to incorporate it into other hobbies (e.g. write about it, play music that inspires it)
- Remember that you can pick any hobby back up no matter how much time has passed
- Consider doing reasearch on the hobby (e.g. reading a book, watching YouTube videos, seeing finished products of the hobby)
- Try different angles of the hobby (e.g. for writing, try writing different things; for salsa dancing try both leading and following; for painting try different materials)
- Don't be afraid to show off your accomplishments no matter how small
- Don't let it take over your life as balance is important (this doesn't mean don't let it become big in your life, just be sure you're leaving time for other things too)
- Know that it's okay to try a hobby and then decide it's not a fit for you. This isn't failing
