15 tips for holiday shopping

Now that Halloween is over, tis the season!

  1. Shop early
  2. Keep track of what you've bought for whom (I have a spreadsheet)
  3. Set a budget (either per gift or in total [or both!])
  4. If you can, check out sites like Etsy where you can buy directly from artists
  5. Don't be afraid to look at gift guides (Here are some I made: 15 gifts that are $15 or under; 15 white elephant gifts for work15 gifts that you can do/make yourself; 15 giftcard ideas; 15 online shopping options that aren't Amazon)
  6. Know that it's okay to ask people what they want (either specifically e.g. a scarf with holly on it or the kind of thing they'd like e.g. jewelry or board games)
  7. Homemade works great--just plan in advance
  8. Get unique with wrapping if you have the time and energy (15 gift wrap ideas)
  9. It's okay to consult people who know the person you're buying for for ideas
  10. Do a brainstorm for ideas without a budget in mind--things out of budget may help you think of things within budget
  11. Shop local if you can (note that this may require some extra time and effort)
  12. Do a brainstorm for things that you'd want--things you want may help spark ideas of things that others want (also, then you'll have a wish list you can share with people shopping for you)
  13. It's okay to do a group gift (e.g. printed photos of your kids for the whole family or matching bracelets)
  14. Find a place to stash gifts--this will help you keep track and maybe even keep them a secret from whom you're giving to
  15. Make things personalized if you can (e.g. a book signed by the author or a monogrammed shirt)

I'm angry

I'm angry. And I don't (at the moment) want to be talked out of it. I struggle, often, with expressing or even just sitting with my emotions. I feel like even the photo I chose for this post was more reserved or toned down than how I feel.  But, this is my trying. I'm not going to time this post, just going to write until I feel done, whenever that may be. In this post, I'm going to focus on the anger I feel around my dad and my dad's death. Though, don't get me wrong, I'm also angry about a lot of things going on in my city, in my country, and in the world. My dad chose alcohol over me and my brother. There is no way around this fact. Yes, when I am less angry, I can be more reasonabl and recognize that addiction is a disesase and he didn't have control over it. But, right now, I want to be angry. I want to get to be angry. I want to get to feel my feelings. I don't want to rationalize, I don't want to be reasonable, I don't want to be fair....
