Synopsis:

  • Kathy and Jack are ready to host a gingerbread cookie making competition. Waitress Nicole Singh really wants to win this year. After her boyfriend dumped her because he couldn't take the small-town life in Hope Springs, she has needed a win.
  • In search of a unique cookie cutter, she heads to the thrift shop in town. The owners knowingly exchange a glance and bring out a buff cookie cutter for her. Nicole finds it funny, but isn't sure it's right for the competition. After some insistence from the shop owners who share that they got engaged while baking, she takes it free of charge. That night, she bakes a test batch with the buff cookie cutter--not knowing it has some magic to it. After decorating them, she rests the cookie cutter over one she is particularly proud of and snaps a photo to share with the shop owners the next day.
  • In the morning, Nicole is terrified to find a buff red-haired man in her home, claiming she brought him to life and that he used to be the gingerbread man she'd snapped a photo of. She throws him out and calls Sheriff Hunter who is quickly on the case.
  • Nicole goes to work at Kathy's diner, a little shaken. She tells Kathy about the ginger and Kathy pauses causing Nicole to ask what? Kathy asks her to consider the possibility that the man is, in fact, a gingerbread man come to life--after all, what about Jack?
  • Meanwhile, Rowan (who doesn't have a name yet), explores Hope Springs and runs into Jack. The two have a similar demeanor and get along readily. Rowan confesses that he doesn't know his name and Jack suggests Rowan (which means red-haired or so he heard on a TV show).
  • Jack takes Rowan to the diner where they run into Kathy and Nicole. Nicole confronts Rowan about being in her home and he sticks to his story about being a gingerbread man. Getting non-dangerous vibes from him, Nicole offers to serve him lunch.
  • Rowan eats the lunch and immediately offers suggestions as to what spices would zest up the meal. Nicole says she'll tell the chef, Isaac, mostly complaining about Rowan, but Isaac tries Rowan's suggestions and the meal is fantastic! Nicole wonders if Rowan is the key to her winning the gingerbread cookie competition.
  • Nicole offers Rowan a place to stay in exchange for his culinary expertise and secret help with the cookie competition.
  • Meanwhile Sheriff Hunter and Deputy Schatz are on the case, looking for a hot redheaded man. This involves scenes of them ripping hats off of pedestrians to see their hair color and asking around about people suspiciously buying hair dye. Nicole runs into them with Rowan and says, she's sure she just had a nightmare, but Sheriff Hunter refuses to back down.
  • Nicole and Rowan keep working to perfect the gingerbread cookie recipe as well as other holiday recipes for the diner and the two grow closer. However, while looking through cookbooks for ideas, Rowan sees a picture of New York City and makes a comment about how he'd like to go there. Flashing back to her ex who left her to move to NYC, Nicole grows cold and asks Rowan to leave.
  • Confused, Rowan seeks out Jack and Kathy for help. They explain Nicole's past and Rowan realizes what upset her. As he traipses back to her place to explain and comfort Nicole, Sheriff Hunter and Deputy Schatz arrive and arrest him, saying that they caught him running out of Nicole's house on the morning she reported the break-in because of a ring doorbell recording.
  • When Nicole shows up for work at the diner, Kathy asks her about Rowan coming back. Nicole says he didn't and then they realize something must've happened to Rowan. The two go to Sheriff Hunter to report Rowan missing, but find him in a cell. The two try to explain that he's a gingerbread man who came to life and he didn't really break in--more sprang to life in Nicole's kitchen.
  • Despite accepting that an inanimate man came to life once in Hope Springs, Sheriff Hunter refuses to believe that it would happen again. He thinks that Rowan has love-bombed Nicole and she is under his sociopathic sway. Since, like Jack, he also doesn't have finger prints, Sheriff Hunter thinks that this time, he's really caught a sleeper agent.
  • Rowan tells Nicole not to worry and that he thinks the trick to their recipe is a touch of saffron.
  • Nicole asks what it'd take to prove to Sheriff Hunter that Rowan is indeed a gingerbread man and he says photographic proof. Nicole pulls up the photo of Rowan before he sprang to life and shows the time stamp. Sheriff Hunter is shocked, but gives in, allowing Rowan to go.
  • Rowan and Nicole rush to her house to finish their dough just in time to enter and win the gingerbread cookie competition. The two kiss for the first time in celebration and Rowan is magically transformed into a real man.

Additional elements to work in:
  • Rowan's confusion about gingerbread houses (see this comic) and eating gingerbread cookies
  • Cameo by me and my Hot Frosty crew
  • Rowan taking off his shirt because he keeps spilling flour etc. on it
  • Rowan bonding with townsfolk by helping kids in home EC and at a charity bake sale

I've officially begun my second cycle. On Wednesday, I had a virtual appointment, yesterday I had my baseline ultrasound, and today I began injections again. On Wednesday, I expressed my concern about my weight and was told not to fret about it for this cycle but that I should work on it for my health. I got told some vague things about measuring my food by volume and weight and that being the key the weight loss (idk it sounded weird to me). But other than that my appointment went well and I really liked the PA I met with. Overall, she was supportive and encouraging me to advocate for myself. Yesterday, I had to get up earlier than normal (6am) so I could make it to my ultrasound at 7am (I have asked for future ultrasounds to be at 8am). I got weighed (ugh), had my blood drawn, and t...

Now, that may sound like I'm bailing out of my fertility journey, but it's actually the opposite. In order to get everything ready for the egg retrieval, I need to hop on birth control for a little bit and then hop off. It feels a bit odd to be taking oral birth control, have a birth control arm implant, and be getting ready for an egg retrieval--but that's how it goes (for me at least--getting to keep the arm implant is rare or so I'm told). People have asked me how I'm feeling about this round of egg retrieval and honestly, I haven't thought about it much yet. I am focused on a big stressful event for work and then C2E2 (Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo--basically, Chicago's Comic-Con) which I attend every year. Because of these two events (one stressful, one fun), I del...
