15 things to do about ICE

First off, fuck ICE. But, yes, there are most certainly more things to do than are on this list. Also, this list is going to lean towards Chicago and Illinois-related actions. Many of these come from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) website, the Indivisible Chicago website, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) website.

  1. Learn your rights when encountering ICE and spread the word about those rights (you can also attend a Know Your Rights Workshop | Taller de Conoce Tus Derechos webinar hosted by ICIRR)
  2. Learn how to recognize the differences between ICE administrative warrants and judicial warrants and spread the word (you can find example images of the different kinds of warrants on National Immigrant Justice Center's website)
  3. Sign up to stay up to date about actions with ICIRR
  4. Donate to ICIRR/Volunteer with ICIRR
  5. Memorize ICIRR's number (1-835-435-7693/1-835-HELP-MY-FAMILY)
  6. If you are safe to do so, know that you have the right to film ICE activity in public spaces. Record at a safe distance and explain what is happening (use the acronym SALUTE (Size, Activity, Location, Uniform, Time, and Equipment/Weapons) or ACTUAR (Actividad, Cuántos y Fuerza, Tiempo y Fecha, Ubicación y Dirección, Armas y Herramienta, y Ropa y Uniforme)). Then, report ICE sightings by calling ICIRR (1-835-435-7693/1-835-HELP-MY-FAMILY). DO NOT upload your video to social media.

  8. Attend a Migra Watch Training | Entrenamiento de Migra Watch webinar hosted by ICIRR
  9. Check in on Indivisible Chicago Action Calendar to see scheduled events you can take part in
  10. Sign up to receive Daily Actions from Indivisible Chicago
  11. Join a chapter of Indivisible Chicago/Donate to Indivisible Chicago
  12. Monitor the ACLU's take action page
  13. Donate to the ACLU
  14. If you can, be a Pro Bono Attorney for the National Immigrant Justice Center
  15. If you can, volunteer for Language Services for the National Immigrant Justice Center

Just been thinking about some lighthearted facts I know about my dad lately.
