So time is an illusion so I decided to just do one of my old prompts again rather than think of a new one. So here's another brainstorm session for a different cozy mystery!
Main character: Late 30s, artist, female, has a female best friend that she has a crush on, enjoys her job, but wishes she had more time to do her own artwork,
Setting/character's job: Instructor at one of those paint and sip nights or whatever you call the events where you drink wine and paint together
Some big event related to the person's job where the climax of the story will happen: Largest paint and sip night that is also a fundraiser for the local animal hospital
Sidekick (ideally animal): Pet chinchilla who is often the subject of the paintings at the paint and sip nights. It is the chinchilla running around the shop that leads the main character to discover the body and helps give the main character a hint at whodunnit because while the chinchilla is normally very easy going with everyone, she reacts scared to the murderer which raises the main character's suspicions (although the main character will wonder if this is because the person wears a coat of chinchilla fur). This again breaks the mold of cat/dog, but does keep up with the cute fluffy pet idea. Besides, who doesn't love chinchillas?
Who got murdered: Owner of the local wine shop who supplies the wine for the paint and sip nights, while he was a main part of the town, he was not very beloved
How murdered: Poisoned bottle of wine that he appears to have been drinking alone, the empty bottle of poison is found on his person. Poison will ultimately be found out to be a drug found at vet clinics
Suspect known to the main character: Main character's beloved elderly female boss because the wine shop owner had been harassing her about late payments and becoming increasingly threatening
Additional suspects: Possible suicide, spoiled legitimate daughter who is expected to inherit the business
Whodunnit: Illegitimate daughter who was the town's newest resident and the town's vet
Whydunnit: She had guilt tripped him to change his will to benefit her, since, despite always knowing about her, he had made no attempt to contact or support her, but didn't think it would last as he loved his legitimate daughter more so she knew he had to die quickly. Plus, she thought the change of will could also give her half sister a motive related to anger at the will change
Fun conclusion: Main character's boss decides to take another step back from the business and promotes the main character which leaves her with a pay raise and more time to do her art. The pet chinchilla becomes the new logo for the group that raises money for the animal hospital
