15 items of action you can take from home

There are a variety of reasons why protesting in person is not the best fit for people. Here are some things you can do from home.

  1. If you can, donate. I made a list of 15 places to donate, but there are many other great places out there to donate to as well!
  2. If you would like to donate, but aren't in a place to, watch this video (all ad revenue is donated): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCgLa25fDHM&list=PLI4P_52MInKaTQN-JVml-Qda6Zg8fwaL_&index=1
  3. Sign Color of Change petitions: https://colorofchange.org/campaigns/active/
  4. Sign the Stand with Bre petition: https://www.standwithbre.com/#petition
  5. Sign Change.org petitions (I am sure there are more than these, but here are 4):
    1. https://www.change.org/p/district-attorney-tom-durden-justice-for-ahmaud-arbery-i-run-with-maud?signed=true
    2. https://www.change.org/p/mayor-jacob-frey-justice-for-george-floyd?source_location=discover_feed
    3. https://www.change.org/p/andy-beshear-justice-for-breonna-taylor?source_location=discover_feed

  6. Call/email/fax for justice for Breonna Taylor
    1. Mayor Greg Fischer: (502) 574-2003, greg.fischer@louisvilleky.gov
    2. Governor Andy Beshear: (502) 564-2611, fax: (502) 564-2517 (you can send a free fax from: https://faxzero.com/)
    3. Attorney General Daniel Cameron: (502) 696-5300, attorney.general@ag.ky.gov, fax: (502) 564-2894 (you can send a free fax from: https://faxzero.com/)
  7. Sign the NAACP petition and send messages to your reps through the NAACP: https://www.naacp.org/campaigns/we-are-done-dying/
  8. Sign Black Lives Matter petitions: https://blacklivesmatter.com/petitions/
  9. Follow activist organizations on social media (this way you can hear from them about other actions you can take). Here are a few, but there are more:
    1. Black Lives Matter: https://www.facebook.com/BlackLivesMatter/https://twitter.com/blklivesmatterhttps://www.instagram.com/blklivesmatter/
    2. NAACP: https://www.facebook.com/naacp/https://twitter.com/NAACPhttps://www.instagram.com/naacp/?hl=en

  10. If your city has police officers in public schools, see if your city is evaluating its police contract. The Minneapolis public school board recently voted to terminate its contract with police and you may be able to encourage your school board to do the same.
  11. Sign the Run With Maud petition: https://www.runwithmaud.com/#petition
  12. Join your local Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) chapter: https://www.showingupforracialjustice.org/surj-network.html
  13. Join your local Indivisible chapter: https://indivisible.org/
  14. Contact your own representatives. Exactly what you ask for will vary by where you are, but you can ask for release for protesters, groups to oversee police accountability (here is info about Chicago's push: https://www.caarpr.org/stop-police-crimes), a ban on tear gas, and support legislation (such as Rep. Omar and Pressley's resolution condemning police brutality or the VoteSafe Act, which calls for mail-in ballots for the 2020 election)
    1. Find contact information for your representatives: https://www.commoncause.org/find-your-representative/addr/
    2. Fax your congressional representatives: https://faxzero.com/fax_congress.php
    3. Fax your senators: https://faxzero.com/fax_senate.php
    4. Fax your governor: https://faxzero.com/fax_governor.php
  15. Share any forms of action you know of (my list is certainly not complete)

I'm angry

I'm angry. And I don't (at the moment) want to be talked out of it. I struggle, often, with expressing or even just sitting with my emotions. I feel like even the photo I chose for this post was more reserved or toned down than how I feel.  But, this is my trying. I'm not going to time this post, just going to write until I feel done, whenever that may be. In this post, I'm going to focus on the anger I feel around my dad and my dad's death. Though, don't get me wrong, I'm also angry about a lot of things going on in my city, in my country, and in the world. My dad chose alcohol over me and my brother. There is no way around this fact. Yes, when I am less angry, I can be more reasonabl and recognize that addiction is a disesase and he didn't have control over it. But, right now, I want to be angry. I want to get to be angry. I want to get to feel my feelings. I don't want to rationalize, I don't want to be reasonable, I don't want to be fair....
