Snippets, twenty-four

Here are some short pieces based on things that have happened in my life recently.

Air Plants

I had four empty air plant holders and now I only have three. Don't judge, but my air plants did die (yes, they can die). With some friends, I went to a garden center and bought some new ones. They are, generally, larger than the ones that were there beforehand. They have flowers and/or spindly green tendrils. I like them because of the variety of holders I can use for them honestly. Also, it's just cool to have plants that can exist outside of soil (even if I managed to kill some).

Pray for me that I can keep these new ones alive.

Clean

After losing my dad, I became aware of how dirty my space was. Luckily, I have amazing friends who came over and helped me clean. They swept, vacuumed, scrubed, dusted, washed, and organized. I am not the cleanest person, but my home is usually cleaner than it has been these past few months. With stress, I tend not to clean as much as I usually do and I've been very stressed lately. Mice also came in during the coldest days and that just makes things awful to handle.

I cannot express how much it meant for me to have my friends help clean my space and my mind.

Propagations

I am propagating my trusty spider plant yet again. I haven't done it in a while and I have been meaning to. It feels good to load up clean jars or bottles of clear water and add a sprongy (is that a word?) green spider plant baby (or more) to it. Having five glass jars/bottles catching the sunlight on my dining room table brightens up the room.

I also love giving them away to new homes. I know I could sell them (for a small amount), but I prefer to just give them away--it just feels better. As long as they end up in good homes to people who are excited to have them, I'm delighted.

If you want a spider plant baby, just let me know. I even have glass jars/bottles (or, if you're lucky, a plastic pot and some soil) to spare.

Repot

I repotted some plants today (well, the day I wrote this post). I felt so satisfied to get plants in new pots (sometimes) in new spots (still trying to find the best plan for sun for my plants). It feels nice to refresh my space and (hopefully) give some new life to my plants.

I don't know how many plants I have (and I don't care). I love them all, but some feel a little more special to me I suppose. I think I know where I got each plant, but maybe I've forgotten some by now. I love having living (and sometimes thriving) decorations.

Sort

As I've been cleaning my apartment (or as my friends have been to be a little more accurate), I have begun sorting things to give away. Some are random kitchen or food items, some are clothes that don't suite me anymore, some are books that I no longer feel a connection to, and others are just random items I've accumulated.

I always hope to find things I sort out good new homes. If there is anything you're looking for, let me know (I may have something that'll do ya). Otherwise, it's to Hyde Park - Buy Nothing or GoodWill it goes.

Perhaps this sorting was inspired by spring cleaning, but some of it was certainly inspired by having time off and incredible friends who are supporting me.

Starting my parental journey, part 9

You can  read part 1 here ,  read part 2 here ,  read part 3 here ,  read part 4 here ,  read part 5 here ,  read part 6 here ,  read part 7 here , and read part 8 here . I've officially begun my second cycle. On Wednesday, I had a virtual appointment, yesterday I had my baseline ultrasound, and today I began injections again. On Wednesday, I expressed my concern about my weight and was told not to fret about it for this cycle but that I should work on it for my health. I got told some vague things about measuring my food by volume and weight and that being the key the weight loss (idk it sounded weird to me). But other than that my appointment went well and I really liked the PA I met with. Overall, she was supportive and encouraging me to advocate for myself. Yesterday, I had to get up earlier than normal (6am) so I could make it to my ultrasound at 7am (I have asked for future ultrasounds to be at 8am). I got weighed (ugh), had my blood drawn, and t...

15 facts about my dad

Just been thinking about some lighthearted facts I know about my dad lately. When he was young, he had a goldfish named Lysander He introduced me to Star Trek At Christmas, he would tear up at It's a Wonderful Life He used to send me articles from his Yahoo email account that he thought I'd like We used to play a game called "Nightmare" where he would lie down and we'd jump around (and sometimes on) him He would clip possible recipes for us to try out of newspapers and magazines We bought him a Paddington Bear to take on trips because we feared he'd be lonely and he always took it He had teddy bears for three different holidays We once had such a hilariously difficult time building a gingerbread house that when some frosting ended up on the counter, I plopped a gumdrop on it and we laughed until we cried He and his sister were born about 11 months apart We would try recipes from Top Chef He kept gifts I made him, even when they weren't great At Christmas, ...
