Here are some short pieces based on things that have happened in my life recently.
Bitter Cold
This weekend it's going to get bitterly cold. Now, it won't be the coldest Chicago will get (or has gotten) by far. But! It will be the coldest it's been in a while. It's looking like some sub-zero temperatures.
Now, yes, I've survived many a day with sub-zero temps, but I don't relish them.
I'm glad to be dogsitting this weekend so that I can just let the dogs in the yard. They can do their business quickly and then run back inside where we can all cuddle (even by a fireplace if we desire).
But, I'm surprised to find that the oncoming cold is enough to discourage me from making plans.
Usually, I'm like, "Cold, be damned! I'm going to see my friends!"
But, now, I'm more like, "Oooh...what if...stay with me...I just stayed under a blanket all day?"
I think I'm losing my Chicago-winter-cred.
Anyone else feel this way?
Cheese and Crackers
So, I don't know if you know this, but cheese and crackers slap.
Yes, I do still say "slap."
DEAL WITH IT.
I had some cheese and crackers earlier today and was like, "Oh, right. This is awesome!"
So, after work, I got three different kinds of cheese (nothing exciting--just brie, Swiss, and cheddar) and three boxes of crackers. I was disappointed to find out that both Ritz Crackers and Club Crackers have soy (which I've developed an allergy to). So, I went with the classier water crackers. I do like water crackers, but I was just kind of craving that flakier cracker. I guess the flakes come from soy oil. Sigh.
Anyways, my reward for finishing this blog post will be lots of cheese and crackers.
I need to find a place in walking distance that I can get a greater variety of cheese (like a Humbolt Fog--it kicks ass!).
Christmas Shopping
So, I think I'm done Christmas shopping. Which, admittedly, is wild.
I HAVE to have forgotten someone, yes?
But I THINK I got everyone.
But I also was done by December 1st.
I got the friend that I get an ornament for every year. I got a gift for whom I am a secret festivus pole (happy to explain this). I got my mom and stepdad. I got my brother, stepbrother, sisters-in-law, and the nieces (including a "niece") and nephews (including a "nephew) I typically buy for.
But, did I forget someone?
I'm going to a holiday makers' market on Sunday, and, beyond that, there is definitely still time to order things online or hit up an in-person store.
But, help?
Whom have I forgotten?
*checks spreadsheet*
I SEEM to be good.
But, YES, I DO have a spreadsheet for gifts! This is especially helpful because I often buy gifts WAY in advance (this is often thanks to C2E2)!
Also, need help Christmas shopping? Lemme know! I genuinely like helping with this!
Tumblr
So, I am still on Tumblr.
Anyone else?
No?
Well, I know SOME of you still are on there. I still follow some of you.
And, there MUST be more of you.
Wanna share?
I'm genuinely curious.
I was once told that asking for someone's Tumblr was "like asking for a dick pic of a soul." Yes, that is a direct quote, but I will shield the person who wrote that to me.
I do have a SUPER private Tumblr that I think I made unsearchable, so I won't go into that one.
But, I do have one that I want to revive that is me taking silly pictures of my Funko Pops. And then I have another one that is just random shit I like. I'm happy to share both of these AS LONG AS you understand that there is NSFW stuff on both!
Lemme know if you're still on Tumblr!
Work Holiday Parties
So, this week I've been to THREE (count 'em, three) work holiday parties.
They started at the broadest my work "team" could be described. Then went to the a medium level of what my "team" could be. And, finally, it was the smallest my "team" could be.
The smallest one (which was today) included two people who used to be on my team. To be clear, I'm all for this. But...I do wish SOMEONE on my team had introduced us. I'm pretty new at my current job and at first I was like..."Dammit, I thought I knew everyone who was on my team and had, at least, met them on Zoom, but I guess I missed two?" I still am not 100% sure on either of their names or what their previous roles were. I have absolutely no idea if they know my name or what I do, but c'est la vie. I did manage to talk Game of Thrones-related disappointments with one of them, so that was fun.
I also got to share some stories with everyone, so I hope they got to know me a bit better (and, better still, I think they MIGHT think I'm funny).
I also got to show off my alligator Christmas sweater, so that's always a plus.
But, yeah, what is the etiquette for small work holiday parties when you're new and don't know everyone? Your boss should help, yes?
Anyways, that's what I think.
