Fake hometown murder

Dear Karen, Georgia, Stephen, and fur associates,

I live in a small town in Maine and everyone kinda knows each other. It's that typical place you see in every true crime show ("it was a peaceful town until..." "a sleepy east coast town..." "a pleasant community where nothing ever happened...") where the biggest crime that had been committed was people stealing each other's gigantic Christmas lawn ornaments (and sometimes having them up was really the bigger crime).

Anyways, that all changed Halloween 2013. A 13 year old sweet baby angel named Lisa (after her grandma) Albertson went missing. She was dressed up as a witch and last seen ringing the bell of a house her friends had given up on (apparently they let her go by herself and continued on to the next house). Even though they realized quickly that they couldn't find her and called the police, she wasn't found until 13 days later in the woods outside of town. She was dead, but there was no clear cause of death. Later, the coroner would report that she was poisoned with cyanide. There were no leads even though the local cops interviewed all of her friends and as many people who had been out and about as possible.

My town might've chalked it up to a one off tragedy if it hadn't happened again. But then it was Halloween 2014. A 14 year old named Vikki Broadbent went missing. Besides going missing on the same day, Vikki had also been dressed as witch. Again, despite massive efforts by the town, she wasn't found until 14 days later and she too had been poisoned by cyanide. My town started to go nuts with theories that ranged from real witches to a serial killer to even aliens (because someone is always going to say aliens).

Tragically, the pattern continued in 2015. A 15 year old named Amy Christianson went missing on Halloween, also dressed as a witch. The town again mad efforts to find her, but failed to do so until 15 days after she'd gone missing. She was also dead by cyanide.

This time, however, the police caught a break. Amy was an avid Instagrammer and had been documenting her night in incredible detail. The last photo she posted was of the same house where Vikki was last seen ringing the doorbell. Even though the woman who lived in the house had been interviewed before, the police hadn't taken her seriously as a candidate because she hadn't been giving out candy and was old and frail. However, this time the police questioned her the day after Amy went missing and saw that while she had not been handing out candy, she had been baking cookies. After Amy was found, the cops discussed the cookies and a few said the batter smelled like almonds (we murderinos all know what that means).

The cops soon got a warrant and found that the old woman who lived in the house, Daphne Davison had baked cookies with cyanide and given them to each girl when they came to her house. She was found to be insane as she genuinely believed each girl to be a witch. Turns out her son had helped her dispose of each body because his mom told him they had died because of an allergic reaction to the almonds in her cookies and it had all been an accident. She is now in an asylum and her son is serving some time in prison.

Nothing will bring back Lisa, Vikki, and Amy, but at least now their murderer is behind bars and their families have answers.

Stay sexy and don't take baked goods on Halloween,
Holly

Starting my parental journey, part 1

To be clear, I am not pregnant. Nor do I currently plan on being pregnant soon. However, I promised myself that if I was 30 and still single I'd start to explore my options for having a child either on my own or later in life with a partner. Well, 30 came and went, but 31 is still here so close enough I figure. My first step was to make an appointment to discuss options with a doctor because I could do all the research I wanted on the internet, but I knew it would overwhelm me. As I write this, I haven't had that appointment yet so no news there. Now I made this appointment in February (hey, I was still 30 then!) and it was originally scheduled for October (yes, an 8-month wait for an initial appointment), but last week the appointment got moved up to this week and things got moving! The timing feels right in a certain way. Two people I care about are having babies in the next month, someone else I love is expecting next year, and I also know multiple couples either trying or g

Starting my parental journey, part 2

You can read part 1 here . Yesterday I began the next step of my parental journey. Ironically, it was starting birth control. This medicine helps prepare my ovaries for the egg retrieval process. It was weird taking the pill to prepare for my fertility journey because you typically think of the pill as ensuring you don't get pregnant. Obviously, I'm not getting pregnant now, but I am getting ready for that eventual possibility. There have also been various bureaucratic issues that I've been dealing with. Mostly insurance stuff (as I'm sure comes as no surprise). But, thanks to a new benefit at work that started 1/1/24, my journey will be (mostly) covered. While, again, there were some bureaucratic hurdles that I had to overcome in order for this to all work out, I am immensely glad that it did work out. I am nervous though. In part I'm nervous about a lot of the practicalities of this step in my journey. For instance, I will have to inject myself with various medica
