15 minutes of a Sterek fanfic, part 10

As soon as she finished speaking, Melissa rushed off.

Allison clearly felt her absence. “I’ll go on a coffee run. Lydia, little help?”

“Ugh, fine. Beats sitting here I suppose.” Lydia bounced off after Allison in the direction of the cafeteria.

Scott came to sit next to Derek.

Sensing the tension, Erica grabbed Isaac and Boyd by the collars and said, “We’ll also go help. Get snacks.”

“Derek,” said Scott, “you can’t blame Allison for this too.”

“Scott,” said Derek evenly, “the best I can give you tonight is tolerance of her being here.”

“She’s one of Stiles’s best friends—” Scott started to protest

“I know,” breathed Derek, “which is why I’m tolerating her. But she did start that fire and I’m not convinced that the fire wasn’t a part of Gerard’s plan.”

“That’s ridic—”

“Scott. Tolerance. Take it or leave it.”

After a pause, Scott nodded.

Melissa came back. “Hey, where’d the party go?” she said, trying to make things light.

“To get coffee and snacks, mom.”

“Makes sense, it could be a long wait.”

Derek looked at her, not sure what to say.

“Oh God, not because of anything bad. In fact, it’s a good thing, if Stiles isn’t in the most dire circumstances then things tend to move more slowly. Here I am rambling. I think what you want to hear is what I found out.”

Derek just kept looking at her, aware that his stare probably wasn’t coming off the best, but not trusting his words.

“Anyways, the surgery was with one of the best surgeons in the hospital—he’s even known throughout the state so no worries there. He is in a private room, recovering. Because of the nature of what happened, however, they want the police to speak to Stiles first before…well before you Derek.”

“They think I did it,” said Derek flatly. Of course they did. There was nothing about his past that would let them think otherwise. Thanks to Scott, and Stiles in fact, he was once a suspected serial killer. Besides that, people are most often harmed by someone close to them.

“I’m sorry, Derek, it’ll be cleared up as soon as Stiles wakes up, I’m sure,” said Melissa in a rush.

The sheriff came back up.

“Oh, Noah,” said Melissa before wrapping him in a hug that the sheriff reluctantly accepted. “He’ll be okay. The surgeon was one of the best.”

“Yeah I did manage to catch that. Listen, Derek, my deputies are gonna want to talk to you, but it can wait until after you’ve seen Stiles.”

Derek almost wanted to cry in relief, but he didn’t want to break down now. He had to stay strong. “Thank you.” The sheriff tried to wave him off, but Derek said again, “thank you.”

“Now where did everyone else go?”

“Coffee run,” said Lydia, magically appearing holding two full cupholders of coffee, “if we’re still here in the morning, I’ll order us something better, but I was assured that this came from the “good” coffee machine.”

Starting my parental journey, part 2

You can read part 1 here . Yesterday I began the next step of my parental journey. Ironically, it was starting birth control. This medicine helps prepare my ovaries for the egg retrieval process. It was weird taking the pill to prepare for my fertility journey because you typically think of the pill as ensuring you don't get pregnant. Obviously, I'm not getting pregnant now, but I am getting ready for that eventual possibility. There have also been various bureaucratic issues that I've been dealing with. Mostly insurance stuff (as I'm sure comes as no surprise). But, thanks to a new benefit at work that started 1/1/24, my journey will be (mostly) covered. While, again, there were some bureaucratic hurdles that I had to overcome in order for this to all work out, I am immensely glad that it did work out. I am nervous though. In part I'm nervous about a lot of the practicalities of this step in my journey. For instance, I will have to inject myself with various medica...

15 ways to support me on my parental journey

I posted yesterday and in August, 2023 about starting my parental journey. If you're wondering how you can support me, here are some ideas I have at the moment (though these may change and also don't feel pressured to do any of these things). Check in via text or DM so I can respond at my leisure (but please don't be insulted if I take a long time to respond) Help with arranging food for me (I know that when I get overwhelmed, I often have really awful eating habits) Offer to help with apartment chores (I may turn you down, but the offer will mean a lot) Walk Hoban (I realize only some people can do this, but the relief of lightening the responsibility of Hoban will likely be welcome) Be understanding if I have to cancel plans (I hope to still be somewhat social during this time, but I cannot guarantee how I'm going to feel) Drive me to appointments (I have the retrieval itself covered, but I have other appointments that will happen leading up to it so if you have the...
