Snippets, thirty-one

Here are some short pieces based on things that have happened in my life recently.

Christmas Decorating

I hope to start decorating for Christmas today. I do have a few deocrations out already, but they're out mostly because I took them out of the closet to get ready for today. I will need to dig more out, but I could only do so much yesterday (still having trouble getting stuff done these days).

Is the last day of November too soon to decorate for Christmas? Should I wait until the first day of December? I mean, that is just tomorrow, but it's also a work day and today is a Sunday so I have more time and energy (in theory at least).

My favorite Christmas decoration I have is probably my gingerbread nutcracker (whom I call Gustav). But I have a few other items as well that I need to prep and, for some, put batteries in.

I'm probably most excited for my Christmas-y candles.

Death Blart

For those that don't know, Til Death Do Us Blart (aka Death Blart) is an eternal McElroy podcast where they, along with two other podcasters, rewatch Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 every year and produce a podcast commenting on it. Now it's important to note that I called it an eternal podcast and that's because the five podcasters have sworn that when they die, they will be replaced in the podcast and Death Blart will thus continue for all eternity.

It's also important to note that I included a section about this podcast in this holiday-heavy snippets post because Death Blart comes out every year on Thanksgiving. So, it's become kind of a Thanksgiving tradition for me to listen to it as we make our way to our Thanksgiving dinner.

This time though, I did fall asleep so I do still have to finish it. But, it is always a hilarious and, somehow, heartfelt time.

Holiday RomComs

I love cheesy holiday romcoms. I don't often watch cheesy romcoms that are not holiday-themed though. I guess I will read them (holiday-themed or not), but something about watching them makes me want a Christmas storyline.

I don't know exaclty when I started enjoying these, but I truly do.

Last year, a group of friends and I watched Hot Frosty and that was a hilariously fun time (and it got really heartfelt at the end).

I also really enjoyed both the A Christmas Prince and The Princess Switch series. I guess I do like the element of royals.

This year, I'm hoping to host people to watch another holiday romcom this year. I will gather my holiday mugs, my hot chocolate, and my fuzzy blankets.

Snow

So while it has snowed earlier this year and even earlier this season, we got our first BIG snow yesterday. It was beautiful to watch--like being in a snow globe.

However, I quickly got annoyed with neighbors for doing absolutely nothing to clear the sidewalks. Today, the day after the big snow, a lot has turned into ice that I have to navigate while hopefully not getting pulled by my dog.

I do still find the snow really pretty overall though. It feels like a great day to kick off the Christmas season and I have some Christmas-y plans today so it should be fun.

I do need to dig out Hoban's winter jacket though. Especially because it's just going to get even colder.

Tree Shopping

Today I am hoping to go Christmas tree shopping with my mom. We like going to a garden center in a northside neighborhood. Yes, we could buy form like Whole Foods, but it's nic eto shop local when you can.

I'll probably get a pretty small tree as I do live alone in an apartment with no elevator. I am trying to figure out where to put it this year. Where I had my last Christmas tree has now been filled with a bookshelf.

I think I'll probably put it in front of another bookshelf.

I also have both pine-scented candles and incense to help enhance the effect of having a Christmas tree in my apartment. I do really like the smell of pine. It actually though sometimes makes me think of my usmmer camp that had a lot of pine trees.

Of course though, it mostly makes me think of Christmas.
