"I won't," Derek whispered. He squeezed Stiles's hand again and then said, "Erica, I know you're listening. Tell everyone that Stiles is ready for them."

"I'll gather the troops," said Erica in the waiting room, but Derek heard her anyways.

"They're on their way," said Derek softly to Stiles.

Stiles smiled. "You know, you can sit down, Derek."

Derek, without letting go of Stiles's hand, reached back with his right leg, caught the leg of the nearby chair, and dragged it towards the bed. He sat down and gently placed a kiss on Stiles's hand. The two of them shared a quiet, calm moment before the door burst open with the whole pack and Stiles's dad.

Everyone rushed to hug Stiles, one by one and wish their get well soons. No one brought up what had happened, allowing Stiles a moment of respite from the horrors of the evening. Melissa talked the nurses into letting the pack spend the night in the room. They dragged in extra chairs from an empty room and everyone settled in for the night. The whole time, Derek never let go of Stiles's hand.

The next morning, everyone awoke a little stiff, but no one complained.

"Coffee?" croaked Isaac.

"We'll go on a run," said Allison, gesturing to Lydia who stretched and then followed her out.

"When are we going to talk about it?" asked Erica once Allison and Lydia were out of human earshot.

"Talk about what?" asked Stiles.

Erica looked to Derek who shook his head, but ever-defiant she said, "About Gerard. We need to formulate a plan."

"We need Stiles to heal in peace," growled Derek. "We need to keep the pack safe."

"And how are we supposed to do that with Gerard out there?" asked Erica, infuriated.

"We are on the lookout for him, he won't get far," said the sheriff.

Erica had clearly almost forgotten that he was there. "I still think--"

"Enough," cut in Derek, "we'll discuss this after Stiles is home."

Stiles squeezed Derek's hand, clearly grateful for the subject change. "I hope last night didn't scare you all too much," he said. "Hopefully it didn't turn you off of parties for good," he tried to quip, but the seriousness of last night's events hung heavy in the room.

"Not your fault," said Boyd.

"Exactly, it was all Argent's--" Erica stopped talking as Allison and Lydia entered the room again.

"We got coffee," said Lydia, cutting through the tension of the room as she handed out cups. "Now, I hope we weren't discussing revenge without me around."

"You're a human," said Isaac, sipping his coffee.

"A human with a superior intellect," said Lydai, flicking her hair, "I'm essential to any and all planning."

Allison stayed quiet as she handed out the cups she'd been carrying. She then slid onto Scott's lap with her own cup. "Should I tell my dad?" she asked quietly.

"Doesn't he know you're here?" asked Lydia.

"Well, yeah, but he doesn't know that Gerard is the one who hurt Stiles. I wasn't sure what to say..."

Did you tell him about the fire? Derek wanted to ask, but instead he breathed deeply. "Since the police are on it, I'm sure he already knows," Derek managed to say evenly, not looking at Allison.

Allison nodded.

"I gotta get in to work," said the sheriff, "but I'll be by to check on you. Derek, I hate to say, but you need to come with me and speak to my guys."

A flash of fear went through Stiles, Derek could sense it, but it was calmed with a kiss to his hand from Derek. "Okay. As long as everyone else can stay."

"Well, at some point, they're also gonna want to speak to Erica, Boyd, and Isaac, but that can happen after you're back."

Derek nodded seriously. He didn't want Stiles to be left without protection. Who knows what Gerard could manage. He'd stabbed Scott right outside the hospital before, who knows what he could do to a human.

"I'll be back soon," Derek said, looking at Stiles. His eyes said I wouldn't go unless I had to.

Stiles nodded and squeezed his hand one more time. He tried to smile, "I got company aplenty."

Starting my parental journey, part 9

You can  read part 1 here ,  read part 2 here ,  read part 3 here ,  read part 4 here ,  read part 5 here ,  read part 6 here ,  read part 7 here , and read part 8 here . I've officially begun my second cycle. On Wednesday, I had a virtual appointment, yesterday I had my baseline ultrasound, and today I began injections again. On Wednesday, I expressed my concern about my weight and was told not to fret about it for this cycle but that I should work on it for my health. I got told some vague things about measuring my food by volume and weight and that being the key the weight loss (idk it sounded weird to me). But other than that my appointment went well and I really liked the PA I met with. Overall, she was supportive and encouraging me to advocate for myself. Yesterday, I had to get up earlier than normal (6am) so I could make it to my ultrasound at 7am (I have asked for future ultrasounds to be at 8am). I got weighed (ugh), had my blood drawn, and t...

15 facts about my dad

Just been thinking about some lighthearted facts I know about my dad lately. When he was young, he had a goldfish named Lysander He introduced me to Star Trek At Christmas, he would tear up at It's a Wonderful Life He used to send me articles from his Yahoo email account that he thought I'd like We used to play a game called "Nightmare" where he would lie down and we'd jump around (and sometimes on) him He would clip possible recipes for us to try out of newspapers and magazines We bought him a Paddington Bear to take on trips because we feared he'd be lonely and he always took it He had teddy bears for three different holidays We once had such a hilariously difficult time building a gingerbread house that when some frosting ended up on the counter, I plopped a gumdrop on it and we laughed until we cried He and his sister were born about 11 months apart We would try recipes from Top Chef He kept gifts I made him, even when they weren't great At Christmas, ...
